Rowan Tree Acquires DCfempreneur, Opening More Opportunities for Local Women Business Owners

Women-focused professional community DCfempreneur is dissolving, with membership merging into Rowan Tree, a coworking and cogrowth business community focused on women, open to all.

HERNDON, VA, MARCH 2022 — Last Friday, Rowan Tree and DCfempreneur made a joint announcement that the member organization aspect of the DCfempreneur community will dissolve. DCfempreneur members will merge/combine with the Rowan Tree community.

Rowan Tree co-founders Amy Dagliano and Kate Viggiano Janich founded their coworking space on the pillars of friendship, women supporting women, and collaboration over competition with the theory that the closer women work together, the more successful and fulfilled they become.

In the past several years, Rowan Tree worked closely with DCfempreneur, led by Lisa Shapiro. This group focuses on community and support to professional female entrepreneurs. Despite the two organizations’ overlapping missions, instead of competing with each other, they found opportunities to elevate each other’s strengths and to collaborate. They co-created networking events, shared each other’s calendars, and offered discounted memberships to those who belonged to both organizations.

Recently, DCfempreneur owner Lisa Shapiro made the decision to step down from DCfempreneur to pursue an exciting career with the Virginia Small Business Development (SBDC) Network at George Mason University. The leaders of both women-focused communities made the natural agreement to merge the two communities.

Shapiro says, “Our members are not losing a community. They are gaining one, a big one, a huge one, with a lot of value and a lot of benefits.”

The transition will officially occur May 1. In the meantime, Rowan Tree will host a series of events to mix and mingle and provide opportunities for DCfempreneur and Rowan Tree members to get to know each other.

“We know we are stronger together,” Dagliano says. “Rowan Tree is looking forward to merging our communities so we have an even wider network of women business owners who can connect, learn, and support one another as we grow and run our businesses.”

Geared for women entrepreneurs and welcome to ALL, Rowan Tree is a coworking space located in Herndon that offers an inclusive and open virtual community and a beautiful, productive in-person workspace. Within its growth ecosystem of women entrepreneurs and passionate allies, Rowan Tree intentionally fosters a community of connection, collaboration, and inspiration and infuses a mix of business, wellness, creativity, laughter, and self-health into its virtual and in-person events and workshops. Rowan Tree is the recipient of George Mason University’s 2022 Women in Business Initiative WIBI Woman-Owned Business of the Year Award.
